Abstract

A study conducted at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Kupang found that students faced difficulties in solving mathematical problems, particularly in the topic of quadratic functions. These difficulties were influenced by differences in students’ learning styles. The research used a qualitative approach with three participants: one visual learner, one auditory learner, and one kinesthetic learner. Data were collected through questionnaires, tests, and interviews. Both visual and auditory learners experienced conceptual and procedural difficulties, such as misunderstanding the concept of the minimum point, errors in writing the general form of quadratic functions, and presenting unsystematic answers. The kinesthetic learner mainly faced conceptual difficulties, especially in understanding the vertex as the axis of symmetry. The study recommends differentiated instruction based on learning styles. Teachers are advised to use visual aids (e.g., diagrams, videos), auditory methods (e.g., discussions, verbal explanations), and kinesthetic activities (e.g., object manipulation, hands-on practice). Teachers are also encouraged to regularly diagnose students' learning difficulties through diagnostic tests or observation to provide appropriate interventions.
