Abstract

The object of study in this thesis is the behavior contract technique through group counseling and truancy behavior, with secondary data sources. The result of the discussion are: the reason of the behavior contract technique is used to reduce school truancy behavior is because by the behavior contract technique, students are required to change maladaptive behavior to be adaptive through a contract agreement. The procedure for using behavior contracting technique to reduce school truancy behavior is carried out through 5 steps, namely: 1) Select the behavior that will be changed by ABC analysis. 2) Determine the initial data of the behavior that will be changed. 3) Determine the type of reinforcement that will be applied. 4) Provide reinforcement every time when the desired behavior appears. 5) Provide reinforcement whenever the behavior shown persists. The effectiveness of the use of behavior contracting technique through group counseling to reduce school truancy behavior is supported by the result of research conducted by Ovila Priska Dewi in 2015 which showed that group counseling service with behavior contracting technique were very effective in reducing school truancy behavior in class XI students of SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya . Based on the result of the discussion above, the author provide suggestions to: 1) BK teachers are expected to examine more deeply about the implementation of counseling service in schools, specifically the use of behavior contracting technique through group counseling service to reduce student truancy behavior. 2) Author is expected to increase their knowledge and insight and improve skill in applying behavior contract technique to reduce student truancy behavior.
