Abstract
The titled of this study is “The Analysis Psychology of Edgar Allan Poe Implied in His Short Story Writing Entitled The Black Cat”. This study was a Library Study. The problem of this study is “Do the psychology aspects of Edgar Allan Poe exist in the Black Cat’s Story and The Objective is, Whether or not the psychology aspects of Edgar Allan Poe exist in the story of The Black Cat. The Black Cat story itself was published on the August 9th 1843, this story is about a man who first loves animals, after that he becomes hate the animal that he loves so much and ends up by killing it with no reason. To answer the question of this analysis, the writer uses several theories of literature and psychology. The theories of Literature that the writer uses are Mimetic (Imitation), Expressive (feeling inward that affects the writing) and Affective (outside condition that effects the author to write the story) and the theories of Psychology are: psychoanalysis and Neurosis, but actually the writer does not put them all together in her analysis (Chapter IV). This study belongs to Descriptive Qualitative. In analyzing the data the writer used Comparison through Internalize and Noting which means, the writer read the main story and other stories related; The Tell Tale Heart, which published in the same year with “The Black Cat”, and The Cask of Amontillado which published in different year. She also used the biography and the psychology of Edgar by Pruette and she compared them all by using analytical strategy, she noted them in the papers before put into her research paper. In her analysis she found at least six psychology aspects that become Poe’s trait those are; Neurosis by giving four distinctions: 1) Unstable Feeling/Unpredictable Feeling means; the feelings of that person cannot be recognized because sometimes its changed with no reason 2) Strange Affection; need more love but when it comes they say it is not enough 3) Sexual Problem 4) Morbid Child; dark imagination of death and sometime they can committed with that too. Antisocial Personality Disorder (ADP) which are divided into four parts; 1) Manipulation or Lie 2) Not/Less Feeling Guilty 3) Not Responsible 4) d. Does not Have Long Term Planning or does not think the latter effect of his Attitude (No Self-Control). Introvert vs. Extrovert, Self Perversity/Stubborn/ Consistent with His Own Low, inferiority, Coping Mechanism (Alcohol) and His structure of personality based on psychoanalysis. In conclusion the psychology aspects of Edgar Allan Poe in his real life really exist in the story that he made. Even though the analysis that the writer is not in objective way but there are the existences of language features inside the story and the theory that can become proofs. After making her analysis, the writer also suggests for the short story lovers to read the story in active way in order to examine content that can be learned for and for teachers and lecturers, hopefully they can introduce literature as a pleasure but as an educative lesson which wraps in fun, simple and unique ways.
