Abstract
The thesis entitled "The Influence of Principal Leadership, Teacher Quality, Learning Process, and Use of Learning Media on the Quality of Junior High Schools in Semau Selatan Sub-District, Kupang District", written by Feriderieks Holeng, NIM 8112201021MM, under the supervision of Dr. Cosmas Fernandez, SVD, MA and Yulius Yasinto, SVD, MA, M.Sc. Quality education is able to produce graduates who have academic competence, vocational competence, personal and social competence, as well as moral values, as life skills. Referring to the results of the document study and interviews, it was found out that the quality of SMP Negeri 1 Semau Selatan and SMP Negeri 2 Semau Selatan Satu Atap is still low. The low quality of these two Junior High Schools is estimated being influenced by the principal’s leadership, the teachers’ quality, the learning process, and the use of learning media. The problems in this research are as follow: (1) What are the respondents' perceptions of the principal's leadership, teacher quality, learning process, use of learning media, and quality of Junior High Schools in South Semau Sub-district? (2) Do the principal's leadership, teachers’ quality, learning process, and the use of learning media partially influence significantly the quality of Junior High Schools in South Semau Sub-district? (3) Do the principal's leadership, teachers’ quality, learning process, and the use of learning media simultaneously influence significantly the quality of Junior High Schools in South Semau Sub-district? This research is conducted in two Junior High Schools in South Semau Sub-district with a population of 32 teachers at two Junior High Schools. Due to the small number of population, all are taken as samples (census). The data were collected using a questionnaire and then are analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (multiple linear regression). The results of the descriptive statistical analysis show that school quality is categorized as good (73.85%), principal’s leadership is good (76.13%), teachers’ quality is good (76.81 %), learning process is good (73.85%), and the use of learning media is also good (75.47%). The results of t-test show that: partially the principal's leadership (2.269, sig 0.031<0.05), teacher’s quality (7.701, sig 0.000 <0.05), the learning process (3.641, sig 0.001 <0.05), and the use of learning media (3.100, sig 0.004 <0.05) have a positive and significant effect. The results of the F-test indicate that the four independent variables (5.361, sig 0.000 <0.05) simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on school quality. The results of the determination coefficient show that the four independent variables contributed 89.6% on school quality and the rest of 10.4% is contributed by other variables excluded in this study. Based on these results, it is recommended to enhance the leadership of school principals, teachers’ quality, learning process and the use of learning media in order to improve the quality of Junior High Schools in Semau Selatan Sub-district, Kupang District.
