Abstract
Mixed ensembles are playing music together using more than one type of musical instrument. In mixed ensemble learning, students are required to be able to play every musical instrument such as: Recorder, Pianika, Guitar, Keyboard, Kahon, Bass Guitar and other musical instruments. However, according to the experience and observations of researchers, mixed ensembles are usually played from one basic tone from the beginning of the ensemble to the end of the game. The main problem in this study is how to apply modulation to mixed ensemble playing through the drill method with the bale nagi song model for fifth semester students of the Widya Mandira Catholic University music education study program. The purpose of this study is to determine the learning process of applying modulation to mixed ensemble playing through the drill method with the Bale Nagi song model for fifth semester students of the Music Education study program at Widya Mandira Catholic University, Kupang. The type of research used in this study is a qualitative approach, the method used is the field action method. To obtain data, researchers used library study techniques, field studies, and documentation. The results showed that the learning process was carried out through the following steps: the initial stage was the first meeting where the researcher recruited students in the fifth semester of the music education study program. The researcher also explained the aims and objectives of the research, introduced and provided material about mixed ensembles and bale nagi songs. Researchers divided students into groups based on the instruments played based on musical interests. The final stage of the research here is that the researcher provides the bale nagi song, at this stage the research subject is required to be able to apply what has been learned into this song and present it in the form of an ensemble performance and document it as the final form of research. Based on the results of the above research, it can be concluded that the application of modulation to mixed ensemble playing through the drill method with the Bale Nagi song model for fifth semester students of the Widya Mandira Catholic University Music Education study program was successful and quite effective in improving students' skills in the Music Education Study Program.
