Abstract

It is intended to answer the following question (1) What are the English emotion words that have been acquired by the majority of eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Kupang year 2018/2019? (2) Emotion words of which emotion category is the most and the least acquired by the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Kupang year 2018/2019?. The objective of the study are(1) to find out what emotion words in English which have been acquired. (2) to find out what is the most and the least emotion words category acquired by the students of SMPN 5 Kupang grade eighth in school year 2018/2019?. In obtaining the data, the writer used qualitative method. The writer chose 20 students from 30 students of class VIII E. The instrument used was through vocabulary test. The result is shown in the table that most of the words have been acquired by 50% or more of the students. However there are some words e.g Anguish and have not been acquired at all. Based on the data analysis and discussion, the conclusions are as follow: (1) All of English emotion words tested have been acquired by 50% and more of the students. (2) In terms of acquisition of words of each category, the most acquired words belong to the category of surprise(92%) and the least acquired words belong to the category of fear (78%). The suggestion for English teacher, to increase their vocabulary, the teacher should give the student vocabulary test to increase their vocabulary in the future. For the students, they should increase their vocabulary, the students have to know what English emotion words which have been acquired.
