Abstract

This study aims to describe junior high school student’s mathematical understanding in terms of self-efficacy. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were 2 class VII students of SMP IL Kapten Fatuba’a consisting of 1 student with hight self-efficacy and 1 student with low self-efficacy. Data collection was carried out through self-efficcay questionnaires, problem solving assignments, interviews, and triangulation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. Indicators of mathematical understanding in this study are restating a concept, using and utilizing and choosing certain procedures or operations, and applying concepts or algorithms to problem solving. The results showed that subjects with high self-efficcay were able to fulfill all three indicators, while subjects with low self-efficacy did not fulfill all there indicators. So, it can be concluded that subjects with hight self-efficacy are able to fulfill all indicators and subjects with low self-efficacy do not fulfill all indicators. Thus it is hoped that in the implementation of learning, teachers need to pay attention to student’s with low self-efficacy.
