Abstract

Students' learning difficulties will have an impact on student learning achievement because to obtain good achievements can be obtained from the treatment of learning at school and outside of school and on the provisions and students' efforts in learning. This study aims to describe the difficulties experienced by junior high school students in solving word problems on SPLDV material. The method used in this study was qualitative with the subject being taken by 3 students who got the lowest scores. The instruments used were validated test questions and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the three subjects do not meet the difficulty indicators, namely concepts, principles and skills. Where the three subjects finished reading the questions, the subjects did not understand what was known and asked in the questions. Subjects also could not change word problems into mathematical models and did not make examples. Subjects had difficulty solving questions using the elimination and substitution methods. The subject also had difficulties in adding and subtracting arithmetic operations, resulting in an inaccurate final result.
