Abstract

Mixed ensemble music is a musical presentation performed together using several types of musical instruments. Based on the results of observations and interviews, researchers obtained information that students only learn similar ensemble music games, resulting in a lack of student skills in playing mixed ensemble music. This study aims to improve the skills of playing mixed ensemble music in class XI IPA 5 students at SMA Negeri 3 Kupang using the imitation and drill method with the song model "So Inang So". The research was conducted by applying a learning approach that involves intensive practice with a focus on imitation and drill techniques. The type of research will be used in this research is qualitative research. The research method used is field action research with ten face-to-face learning meetings. The research subjects amounted to 10 students who will play several types of musical instruments, namely pianika, recorder, guitar, keyboard, drum, and maracas. Each learning meeting consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data was collected through direct observation of mixed ensemble music playing skills and interviews with student participants. The results showed that the application of imitation and drill methods with the song model "So Inang So" was effective in improving the skills of playing mixed ensemble music in class XI IPA 5 students.There was a significant increase in students' abilities in terms of coordination, rhythm, intonation, and interaction in the context of mixed ensembles. In addition, students also showed increased motivation and confidence in playing mixed ensemble music through this method. They perceived improvements in technical skills and familiarity with the song models used. This suggests that the imitation and drill method with the song model "So Inang So" can be an effective learning approach in the development of mixed ensemble music playing skills.
