Abstract

Development of Traditional Music Playing Skills for the Creative Dance 'Lilifuk' Through a Creative and Drill Approach for Semester 4 Students of the Music Education Study Program. Music is a local cultural heritage that reflects the history, beliefs and values of a particular society. Music students who understand and are involved in traditional music can help preserve this cultural heritage. Understanding traditional music enriches students' musical experiences. This opens their horizons to various musical genres and styles that may differ significantly from the music they study regularly. This can enrich students' creativity and help them develop unique musical styles. However, in reality there are still many students in the Music Study Program environment who do not yet have adequate skills in playing traditional music, especially when traditional music is used as an accompaniment to traditional dance. This research aims to investigate and improve the traditional music playing skills of students in the 4th semester of the Music Education Study Program with a focus on the creative dance 'Lilifuk'. The method used in this research is a creative and drill approach, with the aim of integrating innovation in traditional music learning. A creative approach is applied to awaken students' creativity in interpreting and playing traditional music, while the drill method is used to strengthen technical skills and fluency in involving students more intensively. The process of developing traditional music playing skills is directed at making a positive contribution to the quality of the 'Lilifuk' Creative Dance performance. This research involved participants in the 4th semester of the Music Education Study Program at Widya Mandira Catholic University, Kupang. Data was collected through observation, interviews and evaluation of student performance. Data analysis was carried out to measure the effectiveness of creative and drill approaches in improving traditional music playing skills. The results of the research show that using the Creative and Drill Approach is quite effective in improving the traditional music playing skills of Semester 4 Music Education Study Program students. It is hoped that these findings can become a reference for curriculum development and teaching practices in the Music Education Study Program and contribute to further understanding of effective approaches in improving traditional music playing skills in the context of creative dance.
