Abstract
Sato is a stringed musical instrument originating from Waturaka Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency which is played by swiping. The playing process requires certain techniques. The problems raised in this research are (1) what is Sato's playing technique, (2) what is the form of Sato's presentation. The aim of this research is to determine Sato's playing techniques and the form of presentation of Sato. This research is descriptive qualitative in nature. The research method used is ethnomusicology. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interviews and documentation, data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the research show that (1) Sato's playing technique includes body position, left hand position accuracy when holding Sato's neck, finger control when pressing the strings, right hand accuracy when holding the handle. Wo'o, and accuracy in stroking the strings. (2) Form of presentation Sato is performed together with other instruments in the form of an ensemble. This ensemble involves musical instruments Sato 1 and 2 which play the melody of the main song (Cf), while Sato 2, 3 and Gambus play the role of contra melody, Ukulele plays the role of playing chords and Marakas plays the role of playing rhythmic percussion. The presentation starts from the intro in the form of an instrumental performance, then the main part in the form of a combination of instrument playing with vocals and ends with a coda which is presented in the form of an instrumental performance.
