Abstract
Music art is an activity that can be heard, enjoyed, and felt through the presentation of music, whether through vocal performances produced by human voices or instrumental performances from musical instruments. Music art plays an important role in education, especially in the teaching and learning process, as it provides students with a platform to develop their creativity, interests, and talents. One form of music art that students must learn and master is ensemble music. Seventh-grade students at SMPN 11 Kupang are initially introduced to ensemble music lessons, both in theory and practice. This study focuses on two main questions: 1) How is the learning process of ensemble music playing, specifically using the Apuse song model, on Pianika instruments among seventh-grade students at SMPN 11 Kupang? 2) What are the challenges faced by students in learning ensemble music playing, particularly on Pianika instruments? The objectives of this research are: 1) to understand the learning process of ensemble music playing on Pianika instruments among seventh-grade students at SMPN 11 Kupang, and 2) to identify the challenges encountered by students during the learning process. This research adopts a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of ensemble music learning on Pianika instruments involves three stages: initial recruitment of Pianika players and scheduling of rehearsals, core stage involving ensemble information dissemination, and guided practice of playing song parts, and final stage where students present their ensemble performances. The results highlight that the application of imitation and drill methods in the learning process of ensemble music playing on Pianika instruments using the Apuse song model is effective in enhancing the skills of seventh-grade students in music ensemble playing.
