Abstract
Kupang City is the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province with an area of 180.27 km^2. With a population of around 468,632 people (BPS Kupang City, 2023). Vehicle ownership data includes 18,494 passenger vehicles, 8,271 goods vehicles (pick-ups/trucks), 271 buses, and 237,432 motorbikes. Based on data from BPS Kupang City (2023), the total number of vehicles in Kupang City reached 264,468 units. Taking into account the number of local vehicles and cross-traffic through Kupang City, it can be concluded that traffic conditions in the city are relatively dense. To overcome this density, road planning must be designed with a larger capacity. With a high number of vehicles and limited lane width for traffic flow, this can result in a decrease in speed due to high vehicle density. Through visual observation results, researchers saw significant variations in the width and type of roads on the W. J. Lalamentik section. Some are 2/2 undivided, some are 4/2 undivided, and one-way lanes (there is a median). So because of the variation in road types, road widths, and flow composition, the volume of speed must be studied. Therefore, a special study is needed to evaluate the effect of lane width on vehicle speed in traffic flow on the W. J. Lalamentik road section. The purpose of this study is to ensure that traffic flow on the road section remains smooth. Based on the results of the study, it shows that variable X (road width) significantly affects variable Y (vehicle speed), namely: motorcycles 77.4%, passenger cars 59.6% and medium vehicles 45.9% passing through the W. J. Lalamentik road section.
