Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of errors and factors that cause student errors in solving ranked number problems. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative which aims to see the results of students' work in solving questions and interview results that are directly pegged to find out the types of student mistakes in solving ranked number problems. The subjects of this study were 3 students who made the dominant mistake. Data validity uses time triangulation to test the credibility of the data conducted by comparing test data 1 and 2. The analysis technique is carried out by correcting students' work to analyze errors supported by interviews. The results of this study analysis show that the three subjects made the same mistakes, namely 3 types of errors, namely conceptual errors, procedural errors, and calculation/technical errors. The suggestions that the author can give are: 1). Teachers need to identify errors continuously to help students understand the concept of ranked numbers. 2) It is necessary to develop more interactive and contextual learning strategies to reduce conceptual and procedural errors. 3). Students are advised to be more careful and pay attention to every step of working on math problems.
