Abstract

The research focus obtained after the researcher conducted a general exploration, thus obtaining a comprehensive overview that is still at the surface stage of the social situation. To be able to understand more broadly and deeply, it is necessary to select a research focus. Observations in qualitative research take the form of narratives or descriptions of things done by subjects in the conditions experienced. The observation method is grouped into 2 (two) types, namely: 1. Participatory observation, namely the researcher is part of the natural situation where the observation is carried out. 2. Non-participatory observation, namely in this observation the role of the researcher's attitudes and behavior in activities related to the group being observed. The author conducted observations at SDK Don Bosco Kupang City by observing teacher activities in class. The data to be obtained in non-participatory observation is data on the role of the principal in improving teacher performance at SDK Don Bosco Kupang City through data provided by the principal. It is a way to obtain and collect data through questions and answers and dialogue or discussion with informants who are considered knowledgeable about the role of the principal's leadership in improving teacher performance. An interview is a discussion between 2 (two) or more people with a specific purpose). In this study, the author used an unstructured interview technique or often called an "in-depth interview" technique because the author felt "not knowing what he didn't know."
