Abstract

Many pedestrian crossings do not use zebra crossing and prefer to cross to the road on Jalan Cak Doko, even though there are zebra crossing facilities on the road. This paper presents a comparison of waders behavior through zebra crossing with not through zebra crossing. Special waders outside the zebra crossing whether it has an influence on traffic flow or not. When there is influence, how much influence. Observation / survey was conducted for 5 days during the peak hours of the survey, namely morning peak (06:00-08:00), afternoon peak (13:00-15:00), and afternoon peak (16:00-18:00). At each peak time then studied the comparison of waders behavior through zebra crossing with no zebra crossing. Especially for the behavior of waders not through zebra crossing will be examined its effect on the number of vehicles detained and the delay and the travel time of vehicles when crossing activities occur. The results of this study showed that in the morning the behavior of waders through zebra crossing more than not through zebra crossing, during the day the behavior of waders through zebra crossing less than not through zebra crossing. While in the afternoon the behavior of waders through zebra crossing more than not through zebra crossing. At the morning peak, the average road wader inhibits 3 vehicles for 2.14 seconds, at the afternoon peak, the average road wader inhibits 2 vehicles for 1.80 seconds, while the afternoon peak inhibits 2 vehicles for 1.90 seconds. Influence on vehicle travel time where when the waders vehicle travel time decreased at the peak of the morning motorcycle travel time decreased from 8.73 seconds to 12.62 seconds. At the peak of the day, the motorcycle travel time decreased from 9.65 seconds to 13.87 seconds. While at the peak of the afternoon, motorcycle travel time decreased from 8.59 seconds to 12.49 seconds. Thus pedestrian crossings can affect traffic performance, especially vehicle travel time on Jalan Cak Doko Kupang City.
