Abstract
Medo song is one of the cultural heritages and traditional musical arts of the Udiworowatu Village community, Keo Tengah District, Nagekeo Regency, which plays an important role in the traditional Peo making ceremony. This song is an integral part of the Peo planting procession, functioning as a collective expression medium to convey gratitude, respect for ancestors, and hopes for the safety and welfare of the community. In practice, Medo is not only sung as a form of ritual, but also becomes an educational and spiritual medium that strengthens the cultural identity of the Keo community. In addition to being used in the context of making Peo, this song is also present in various other traditional moments, such as the construction of traditional houses and welcoming guests of honor, making it an important element in the social and religious life of the local community. The problems in this study are (1) how is the form of presentation of the medo song in the peo making ceremony, (2) What is the structure of the musical form of the Medo song in the Peo traditional ceremony. The purpose of this study is (1) To find out the form of presentation of Medo singing in the Peo making ceremony, (2) To find out the structure of the musical form contained in the Medo singing in the Peo making ceremony. This approach uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method, this approach is used to understand the phenomenon in depth and holistically, while the qualitative descriptive method aims to describe and explain the musical form and context of the presentation of Medo singing based on empirical data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that Medo singing is presented in the form of a group performance, involving married men and women, with a longitudinal formation facing the Peo. The presentation is accompanied by traditional musical instruments bheto (bamboo) and simple dance movements performed by traditional figures. The singing is done in response, led by a traditional elder, and functions as a form of respect for ancestors and a symbol of social togetherness. Musically, the Medo song has a single structure with a division of three subsections (A1, A2, A3) and six interconnected phrases. Musical analysis found eight motifs used in the melody, with variations in rhythm and pelog and slendro scales. This song has an adagio tempo (66–75 bpm) which gives a solemn and emotional impression. Medo is not just a musical expression, but a means of spirituality and cultural identity of the Keo indigenous people which is passed down from generation to generation.
