Abstract

The tradition of plant utilization carried out by the community is an expression of community policy in managing and utilizing natural resources sustainably. However, with modernization there are concerns about the loss of this traditional knowledge and the reduction of valuable plant resources. The purpose of this study is to explore and document the tradition of plant utilization by the community, with a focus on the related economic and socio-cultural aspects. The research was conducted in five villages in Jerebuu sub-district, namely Tiworiwu, Tiworiwu 1, Tiworiwu 2, Watumanu, and Dariwali 1 villages. The research was conducted in February - March 2025. Data collection used semistructured interview methods, field notes, observation, documentation, and literature studies involving 107 respondents. The collected data were then analyzed descriptively which were displayed in table form. Based on the research results obtained, 52 types of plants are used as basic food ingredients, 33 types of plants are used as medicines and 15 types of plants are used in traditional rituals. The existing tubers are still processed in the same way from generation to generation such as boiling, grilling, and frying. The community has traditionally used plants as traditional medicine until now. The use of plants in traditional ceremonies is still very close and its authenticity is maintained according to the heritage of the ancestors, in this case almost all types of plants used in the past and now have not changed. This is related to the community's belief that each type of plant has its own spiritual values and meanings in the customs that are passed down from generation to generation. Each type has a specific meaning in each traditional ceremony according to the intent and purpose of the ceremony. The form of conservation activities carried out by the community is cultivating these plants.
