Abstract
The increase in vehicle numbers without adequate infrastructure development has reduced traffic performance, particularly at unsignalized intersections. One parameter for evaluating traffic performance is the Passenger Car Equivalent (PCE), which converts various vehicle types into passenger car units (PCU). PCE values vary depending on traffic conditions and road geometry, making field measurements essential for accurate results. This study was conducted at the three-leg unsignalized intersection of Jalan Timor Raya KM 12 – Jalan Oetete, Tarus, Kupang Regency. The method used was the speed method with passenger cars as the reference vehicle. Data collected included traffic volume, vehicle speed, and intersection geometry. The difference in speed between the reference vehicle and test vehicles was used to determine PCE values for left-turn, right-turn, and through movements. The results showed that medium vehicles had PCE values of 1.31 (left-turn), 1.36 (right-turn), and 1.34 (through), within the PKJI 2023 range. Motorcycles had values of 0.39, 0.41, and 0.42, lower than the standard 0.5, reflecting their maneuverability in the field. Regression analysis indicated that road width and traffic volume had more influence on motorcycle PCE than medium vehicles, although the effect was relatively low. It is concluded that PCE determination should be based on field measurements to better reflect local conditions.
