Abstract
Fut Pena is a communal activity practiced by the people of Bitefa Village, Miomaffo Timur Subdistrict, North Central Timor Regency, in which corn is tied as a part of the harvest process. In its implementation, the Oebani song plays an essential role, rich in meaning and spiritual significance, and is deeply connected to the community’s cultural identity. The problems addressed in this study are: 1) How is the Oebani song performed during the Fut Pena activity in Bitefa Village, Miomaffo Timur Subdistrict, North Central Timor Regency? 2) What meanings are contained in the Oebani song during the Fut Pena (corn-tying) activity in the same context? The objectives of this study are: 1) To describe the performance process of the Oebani song during the Fut Pena activity in Bitefa Village, Miomaffo Timur Subdistrict, North Central Timor Regency. 2) To explore the meanings embedded in the Oebani song within the Fut Pena activity. This research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving traditional elders and community figures who are directly involved in the corn-tying activity. The findings show that the Oebani song is performed in groups, characterized by repetitive lyrical patterns. The song conveys values of togetherness, ancestral reverence, gratitude, and hope for a better life. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Oebani song plays a central role in strengthening the community's cultural identity and sustaining the Fut Pena tradition within the social life of the people of Bitefa Village.
