Abstract
The wedding song is interpreted by the Bunaq tribe of Dirun Village as a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation when a member of the tribe passes away. The Kawen song is an important part of the cultural identity of the Belu people, particularly the Bunaq community in Dirun Village, as it contains meanings that reflect emotional expressions, spiritual and social cultural values, and local wisdom passed down through generations. The issues in this study are (1) How is the Kawen song presented? (2) How do Kawen songs reflect the concept of meaning in the Bunaq tribe community of Dirun Village, Lamaknen District, Belu Regency? The objectives of this study are (1) To determine the form of presentation of Kawen songs. (2) To determine how Kawen songs reflect the concept of meaning in the Bunaq tribe community of Dirun Village, Lamaknen District, Belu Regency. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analyisis technquws used an interactive analysis model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the presentation of Kawen songs is performed orally in the form of responsive pantun verses, sung in groups, where solo performances are sung by both men and women, sitting in a circle at night during the wake until dawn. The time and place of the Kawen song performance at the funeral ceremony is sung at night to mourn and guard the body and comfort the bereaved family until dawn. The presentation of the Kawen song consists of three stages, namely the preparation stage in the form of en gege tetu (notification to the relevant tribe), tita mit (sitting together), rato gol gawa gini (eating together), and the main stage in the form of the Kawen song (en hananu). The meaning contained in the lyrics of the Kawen song can be explained both from the words spoken by the poets during the song. The overall meaning contained in the Kawen song is affective, emotive, and descriptive. As it is a tradition that has existed since ancient times, it is important to preserve it because it has artistic value, beautiful language, and rich symbols, while also strengthening the cultural identity of the Bunaq tribe.
