Abstract

Feko is a form of traditional music originating from the Lio community in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The name “Feko” is taken from the two main instruments used in this music, namely feko (bamboo flute). These instruments have an important function in the context of local culture and customs, and are a symbol of community identity that needs to be preserved. Feko is also performed by a group of people who form a studio, where all the feko genda players are men. It has been a tradition passed down through generations that only men, both teenagers and adults, are allowed to play the feko. Women are responsible for dancing and enlivening the event, accompanied by the blowing of the feko. 1) how is the organology of the feko musical instrument in the Embuzozo flute music studio in Nangapanda District, Ende Regency? 2) how are the musical elements that make up the feko genda game in the Embuzozo flute music studio in Embuzozo Village, Nangapanda District, Ende Regency? This research aims to describe the organological aspects of the Feko musical instruments, including their shapes, materials, ways of making, and techniques of use, as well as explaining the musical elements that make up the music playing in the context of traditional ceremonies. This research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods, where data is collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results showed that the Feko instrument is played by blowing, with the main materials used are local wood and bamboo. These musical instruments produce repetitive rhythm patterns, pentatonic melodies, and have certain tempos and dynamics that are typical in traditional rituals. Apart from being a medium of artistic expression, this instrument also functions as a cultural communication tool and a means of preserving traditions.
