Abstract

This research is qualitatively discrete research that aims tonaisis a math error smptk iman putun students in working on the story problem on the material of addition and reduction of fractions. The subjects in this study were three grade VII students who had high, medium and low ability. In addition, the selection of subjects is also based on the results of discussions between researchers and teachers of mathematics subjects. The data collected is in the form of data from problem solving tasks and interview results based on newman indicators. Data analysis includes data reduction, data study and conclusion drawing. Checking the validity of data using triangulation. Once the data is presented and analyzed, it can be concluded that. (1) students with high ability are able to interrupt the given questions and meet the newman indicators. (2) students with moderate abilities are able to solve the given problem and meet the newman indicator but are not able to write the final result. (3) while students with low ability are not able to meet the newman indicator.
