Abstract

The research questions are 1) How can YouTube improve young learners’ speaking ability 2) How effective is YouTube in teaching speaking to young learners. The objectives are 1) To find out how YouTube can improve young learners speaking ability during class. 2) To find out YouTube's effectiveness in teaching speaking to young learners.The study used mixedmethods and Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research design. The participants of the research were grade VII students of a secondary school in Amarasi in the academic year 2020/2021. The writer took one class as a sample consisting of 20 students. The data was obtained by implementing an action research consisting of two cycles. The result of the study showed that the average score of students’ pre-test is 54,75, post-test 1 is 62,15 and post-test2 is 70,05. This means that there is a significant improvement in student’ speaking scores after teaching using YouTube videos. The average scores indicate that teaching speaking using Youtube videos is more effective than teaching speaking without using videos. In addition, YouTube videos can improve students' speaking skills of young learners in a junior high school in Amarasi.
