Abstract

One of the learning model which can be used in the learning process is Direct learning model. Direct learning model is a one of the teaching model which can help the learners to study the basic skill to get the information which is taught step by step. Direct learning model is especially created to ease the learners to study the science declaratively and procedurally which is well prepared. The main problem in this research is: “What is the result of the application of Direct Model in teaching the topic energy and effort to class D of the eight grade students SMP Negeri 9 Kupang in the academic year 2015/2016”?. The detail problems of this study are : 1) . what is the teacher’s ability in managing the learning process when direct learning model is applied? 2) what are the students’ Learning Outcomes Indicators in learning the topic of energy and effort by using direct learning model? 3) what is the result for the students after learning the topic of energy and effort using direct learning model? 4). What is the learners responses to the teaching and learning process by using Direct learning model? This aims of this research are: to describe the result of direct learning model application for the topic of energy and effort for the class D of the eight grade students in the Odd semester of SMP Negeri 9 Kupang in the academic year 2015/2016. The detail aims are : 1). To describe the teacher’s ability in managing the teaching and learning process by using Direct learning model, 2) to describe the learning outcomes indicators in applying the direct learning model, 3) to describe the students’ learning result after applying the direct learning model. This research is descriptive one and subject of the research is teacher (researcher) and tclass students of eight grade in the odd semester of SMP Negeri 9 Kupang in the academic year 2015/2016 which consisted of 27 students. The techniques used by the writer in data gathering were observation, test and questionnaire. The instrument used in this study was observation sheet of the application of direct learning model with the topic of energy and effort, test,(product, affective and psychomotor) and the students’ responses sheet. The technique of the data analysis used in this study is quantitative descriptive proposition. Based on the result of descriptive analysis it shows that generally the application of direct learning model is optimum for the topic of energy and effort for the class D of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Kupang in the academic year 2015/2016 with the total number of the subjects is 27. The result are as follows: 1). The teacher’s ability in managing the teaching and learning process by using direct learning model including planning, evaluation and the application was categorized as Good. 2). Learning outcomes indicators (product, affective and psychomotor) was achieved or completed. 3). The result of the students learning (product, affective and psychomotor) was also achieved/completed 4). The students’ responses to the teaching and learning process done by the teacher for the five aspects was classified as very Good.
