This study focuses on the direct feedback strategy to improve students writing skill during the learning process. The random sampling is used in choosing the respondents for this study. There were 36 students in this class but the writer took 5 students as the respondents. The students who collaborate during the learning process were given the same topic to write down. The topics were about their experience and biography of someone or a hero that they know. The biography was about: (1) my family member, (2) a hero, (3) an artist, (4) friend and (5) students’ own topic. The instrument of this study was a writing test. The result of using this strategy “direct feedback” showed that the implementation of teacher’s direct feedback was successful to help students in improving their writing skill. The improvement was on all writing aspects. The students were considering the use of simple past in writing their experience in the past and biography of someone. In the vocabulary aspect they were using the simple words so the meaning was clear. During the process of giving direct feedback, the writer, helped them by giving some motivations and support in doing their task. Based on this result the writer would like to offer some suggestions as follows: 1) the English teacher should be more serious in helping students to improve their writing skill. 2) the English teacher should give any topics to students so they can share their idea through writing.
