Abstract
Learning musical accompaniment for accompanists (répétiteur) is a very important thing to do. The problem currently experienced by piano accompanists, especially in Kupang City, is that they only play or accompany a song by ear (play by ear) without seeing or reading the original score of the song. For example, the song Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, which most of the accompanists accompany without looking at or following the score of the song, but only based on what they hear. Researchers have collected the original accompaniment score for the song Ave Maria created by Franz Schubert which was then used in the learning process for the accompanists in accompanying the song Ave Maria. The researcher took steps to try to provide advice and guidance to the accompanists, then use the original accompaniment score for the song Ave Maria by Franz Schubert using demonstration and imitation methods. The song Ave Maria is a work by Franz Schubert which was composed in 1825. This song uses the arpeggio accompaniment technique of double thirds (three intervals), double sixths (six intervals), and double fourths (four intervals). The method used in this research is the field action research method. The results of the research created by the researcher were arranged in three stages, namely the initial stage (recruitment), the core stage (10 meetings) and the final stage (evaluation). The learning material at each meeting always begins with etude practice to train the flexibility of the accompanists' wrists and fingers. Thus, efforts to improve the learning of piano arpeggio accompaniment, especially double thirds arpeggios in the song Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, for students in the fourth semester of the Music Education Study Program using demonstration and imitation methods have achieved quite satisfactory results, although there are still some shortcomings, such as fingers and wrists. The participants' hands still seemed stiff, the implementation of the song interpretation was not very visible, but if seen as a whole, the accompanists were able to play well.
