Abstract

Learning the art of music is very important for educational institutions, one of which is for students at Duamanu Middle School. However, music learning at SMPN Duamanu is not going well, this is because there are no teaching staff and there is no infrastructure in the form of musical instruments at school so that the practical part is not developing well. Therefore, researchers are very interested in carrying out learning and implementation at the school in order to find out the steps for learning how to play the recorder musical instrument for students at Duamanu Middle School properly, and to find out the level of effectiveness of the drill and imitation methods in teaching musical instrument playing. soprano recorder with the song model "Teacher's Hymn" for students in class Vlll A of Duamananu State Middle School. This research is qualitative in nature, with the method used namely the field action method. The way to obtain data is through observation, interviews and documentation. The process of learning to play musical instruments takes place in three stages, namely the initial stage, core stage and final stage which is carried out in 13 meetings. By applying the drill and imitation method in the practice process during the 13 meetings, the researcher was able to find out that the ability and understanding of the Duamanu Middle School students in playing musical instruments was very good, and the results obtained were that the students were able to understand the techniques of playing musical instruments, play good and correct fingering techniques, can read notation well, and know the note values, chords, time signatures, tempo in playing a recorder musical instrument well. In this research, the students were very interested in receiving material about playing the recorder musical instrument, because it was a new learning and experience for the students.
