Abstract
The problem of this study is the application of symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance services effectively increasing the confidence in eighth grade A students of SMP Angkasa Kupang in the academic year 2019/2020? The research objectives are: to determine the effectiveness of the application of symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance services in increasing the confidence of students of class VIII A in Angkasa Kupang Middle School in 2019/2020. This type of research is quantitative descriptive with pre-experimental type. The population of this study were all students of class VIII A of Angkasa Kupang Middle School in 2019/2020, totaling 27 students. The sample of this study was 6 students of class VIII A of Angkasa Kupang Middle School in 2019/2020 which had low self-confidence. The research instrument consisted of instruments collecting data in the form of questionnaires and treatment instruments in the form of guidelines for symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance. This research data collection tool is a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using the t test formula. The results of the analysis of the research data show the value of tcount is 23.75 while the value of ttable at the significance level of 1% with dk (N-2 = 4) = 4.604. Thus tcount> ttable, it can be said that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that there is an increase in students' confidence after being given symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to class VIII A students at SMP Angkasa Kupang in the academic year 2019/2020. Based on the results of this study, researchers provide advice to: 1).Principals as leaders are expected to further enhance collaboration with school counselors, in carrying out group guidance service activities with symbolic modeling techniques in order to help increase student confidence. 2) Teacher guidance and counseling as a guide are expected to continuously provide guidance of students by using symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to increase student confidence. 3) Students are expected to be more active in participating in group guidance service activities with symbolic modeling techniques implemented at school in order to increase their confidence.
