Abstract
This thesis aims to find out 1) the reasons for using symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to increase students' self-confidence, 2) the process of applying symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to increase students' self-confidence, and 3) the effectiveness of applying symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to improve student self-confidence. student confidence. The method of this study is a literature study, namely examining books, journals, articles and theses related to the topic studied and the object of the study is symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance and self-confidence. The source of data used in writing this thesis is a secondary data source and the type of data is qualitative data. The results of the study indicate that the symbolic modeling technique is a technique that can be used to increase students' self-confidence, this is supported by articles from previous research which prove that after applying the symbolic modeling technique, students' self-confidence has increased. The symbolic modeling technique through group guidance is carried out in four stages of group guidance, namely the formation stage, the transition stage, the activity stage, and the termination stage. At the activity stage in group guidance, symbolic modeling techniques will be applied which consist of five stages, namely the rational stage, giving examples, practice/ practice, homework and evaluation. The symbolic modeling technique through group guidance is effective for increasing students' self-confidence as evidenced by Fadhil's research article (2018) which shows that there is a significant increase in self-confidence before and after being given treatment. Based on the results of the study above, the authors give suggestions to 1) Guidance and Counseling teachers are expected to deepen their knowledge and skills in applying symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to increase student confidence, and 2) the authors are expected to increase the writer's understanding and skills in applying symbolic modeling techniques through group guidance to overcome the problems experienced by students, especially the problem of self-confidence.
