Abstract
This thesis is entitled “A Study on English Grammatical Error in Procedure Text Written By EFL Learners”. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What are the errors made by fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the procedure text? (2) What is the dominant error committed by the fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the procedure text? Based on the problems stated above, the objectives of the study are as follows: (1) To identify and describe the errors made by the fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the procedure text. (2) To know the dominant errors committed by the fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the procedure text. The subjects of this study were the fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang. The sample of this study was 14 students. The method applied in this study was descriptive qualitative method and the instrument used was writing test and used google form. The writer used Dulay surface strategy taxonomy to analyze the data, consisting of omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The result of the analysis showed that the errors committed by the fourth semester students of English Educational Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang were omission 7 (39%), addition 7 (39%), misformation 3 (17%), and misordering 1 (6%), so the number of errors in grammar was 18 . The dominant error was omission 7 (39%) and addition 7 (39%). Based on the result of this study, the writer would like propose some suggestions to the lecturer and the students. (1) For the Lecturer, the lecturer must teach students how to write procedure texts or various kinds of texts well and give students the opportunity to practice. (2) For the students, the students must learn how to write good texts and pay attention to grammar, especially tenses.
