Abstract

Thesis title: The Effect of Communication Technology Use on the Interest in Reading Textbooks Among Eighth Grade F Students at State Junior High School 5 in Kupang City for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The problem in this study is whether there is an effect of communication technology use on the reading interest of eighth grade F students at State Junior High School 5 in Kupang City in the 2024/2025 academic year. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of communication technology use on the reading interest of eighth grade F students at State Junior High School 5 in the 2024/2025 academic year. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research design. The research variables consist of two variables, namely the independent variable (X) of communication technology use and the dependent variable (Y) of interest in reading textbooks. The sample for this study consisted of 30 eighth-grade students from State Junior High School 5 in Kupang for the 2024/2025 academic year. The data collection tools used were questionnaires on the use of communication technology and interest in reading textbooks. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS for Windows version 24. The results of the data analysis showed that the Fcount value was greater than the Ftable value (373.309 > 4.196) and the significance value was 0.000 ˂ 0.05, so Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, meaning that there was an effect of communication technology use on the reading interest in textbooks of eighth-grade students at State Junior High School 5 in Kupang City for the 2024/2025 academic year. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend that a) Principals, as leaders in schools, collaborate with subject teachers and guidance and counseling teachers to establish policies on the wise use of communication technology in order to increase interest in reading textbooks. b) Guidance and counseling teachers are expected to provide curative and preventive efforts through the improvement, development, and optimization of guidance and counseling services to help students increase their interest in reading textbooks and use communication technology wisely. c) Subject teachers are expected to collaborate with guidance and counseling teachers to guide and supervise students' wise use of communication technology, and are expected to apply learning methods that encourage students to actively read textbooks as their main source of learning. d) Students are expected to better manage their time in the wise use of communication technology and further increase their interest in reading textbooks.
